The Shovel can be purchased from John's Goods after purchasing the Excavation Licence Level 1 from Fletch for

The Shovel becomes a new item type when it is used to dig the ground, such as Shovel of Dirt, Shovel of Mud, Shovel of Red Sand and Shovel of Sand.

This tool's durability is repairable in the Repair Table.

The 2nd year Anniversary Update for tools now shows a small visual warning in the toolbar when close to breaking while in use.

Usage[]

The shovel is used to dig up a tile of dirt/sand/mud, buried treasure found through Metal Detecting, and an "X" marker from the Metal Detecting Licence Level 1. The shovel is also used to bury any plantables.

The shovel will hold onto the tile type so that it can be placed elsewhere. It can pick up and place material from any level whether it be higher or lower than where the player is standing.

It can also be used to "pick up" paths that have been placed down, but the path must be empty in order to do so.

Terraforming[]

Ten (10) shovels of dirt/sand/mud can be placed into the Wheelbarrow and wheeled over to another location. Alternatively, having multiple shovels in the players toolbar and scrolling between them to use to remove and replace dirt from location to location can help save going back and forth.

When dirt is stacked above the build limit (15), additional dirt placed to that stack is deleted. This is another method the player may use to remove dirt from an unwanted location. When dirt is desired at a location, the player may do the opposite by digging a deep hole (don't fall in 😆), and this will give the player 'infinite dirt'. This works with dirt, sand or mud.
